Armitage Alehouse: Why It’s the Best Craft Beer Bar in Town

Step into Timeless Charm

Step back in time to the warmth and elegance of Armitage Alehouse. Nestled in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, this unique English-style pub offers a rare blend of historic charm and modern refinement. The moment you walk in, you are transported. Candlelit tables, rich wood tones, and a softly buzzing ambiance make it feel like you are worlds away from the city outside.

Whether you are a food lover, cocktail enthusiast, or just craving a cozy escape, Armitage Alehouse is a must-visit spot.

The Story Behind Armitage Alehouse

Armitage Alehouse is part of the acclaimed Hogsalt Hospitality group. Known for creating immersive dining experiences, Hogsalt brings another gem to its roster with this British-inspired venue.

Every detail is thoughtfully crafted. From the menu to the interiors, everything echoes the feel of a traditional pub with the polish of a fine dining restaurant. Inspired by London’s taverns and Victorian clubs, it is more than a meal. It is a moment.

Victorian Design with a Chicago Soul

Walking into Armitage Alehouse feels like entering a different era. The design is rich and cozy. Deep wood paneling wraps the space. Soft leather booths invite long conversations. There are antique fixtures and flickering fireplaces that create a moody, romantic setting.

The lighting is dim and elegant. It gives the restaurant a cinematic feel, perfect for date nights or thoughtful solo meals. Even the restrooms carry the theme, with tile and fixtures that speak of another time.

Dining at Armitage Alehouse

The service is smooth and attentive without being overbearing. Staff know the menu well and offer solid recommendations. It is the kind of place where your water glass never runs low, and yet you are left to enjoy your space in peace.

Guests can dine at the bar, in a quiet corner, or by the fireplace. Whether you are dressed for a casual night out or celebrating something special, the vibe always fits.

Reservations are highly recommended. You can book easily through Resy. It is quick, simple, and ensures you get the table you want, especially on weekends.

I can’t recommend this place enough! We don’t typically revisit restaurants since there are so many great spots in the city, but I’m certain we’ll be coming back. From the moment we walked in, we loved everything about it. We were seated in a cozy booth, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The decor really set the atmosphere, and the food was absolutely fantastic. Every dish we tried was flavorful, though the peas and bacon didn’t quite hit the mark — but that’s a simple dish, so it didn’t bother me too much. The service was friendly and attentive throughout. If you haven’t visited yet, I highly encourage you to experience it for yourself. Be sure to try the charred naan bread — it was divine! The salmon melted in my mouth, and the pot pies were perfect for a cozy meal. Wash it all down with a Mumbai Mule or two, and if you have room left, don’t miss the Golden Milk!

I have to give this place a solid 5-star review! My friend and I came in last night after class. We didn’t have reservations, but I was able to put my name down for a walk-in. Leo at the bar was amazing — his energy was great, and he was super attentive, answering all of our questions. The trout Caesar was so delicious that it alone will bring me back for more dinner nights! Could it possibly be the best in all of Chicago? I think so! The steak tartare was excellent, but the burger was a little too salty for my taste (though I’ve heard it’s usually great, so I’ll try it again). If you take one thing away from my review, let it be this: save room for dessert! The sticky date cake was mind-blowing — I shouldn’t have had it, but I’m so glad I did. I can’t say enough great things about this place. I’ll definitely be back soon!
