I’ve been to Dove’s Luncheonette many times, and it never disappoints. The classic diner vibes and amazing food always bring me back. The Burnt Ends Hash is one of my all-time favorite brunch dishes in Chicago. This visit, I tried the Chicken Fried Chicken and their new burger — both were fantastic.
The chicken portion was huge, perfectly crispy, and absolutely delicious. The burger was also a hit — light sesame seed bun, flavorful sauce, and juicy patty. We also ordered the Al Pastor Seasoned Fries with a side of Chipotle Aioli, which had a great kick and really tied everything together.
The only downside? We had to wait about 1.5 hours for a table — the longest I’ve ever waited here. Still, it was totally worth it. I highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in town.

After more than six years, I finally returned to Dove’s Luncheonette and decided it was time for an updated review. We always loved this spot, but it used to be tough to get a table since it’s so small and first-come, first-serve. Now that you can reserve seating online, it’s a huge improvement — we’ll definitely be back more often!
The food is a creative mix of American and Mexican flavors, featuring lots of Tequila and Mezcal options. The menu is small, which fits perfectly for a casual breakfast or lunch spot focused on quick, delicious meals. Seating is mostly bar stools around the perimeter and near the kitchen, giving it a true old-school diner feel. It’s not the most comfortable for a long stay, but service is fast, so it’s not an issue.
I wouldn’t recommend it for a date night, but if you’re craving comforting, flavorful food, this is the place. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken — tenderized thigh meat marinated in buttermilk, perfectly crispy, and mouthwatering, especially when paired with their homemade chili hot sauce and gravy.
