Exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day and vary by provider. This converter uses the mid-market rate as a planning estimate — your bank, card issuer, or a currency counter will typically apply their own fee or markup on top.

How to Use the Currency Converter

Enter the amount you want to convert, then choose the currency you're converting from and the currency you're converting to. The converted total updates automatically using the current exchange rate. Use the swap button to flip the two currencies, or tap a preset amount to convert common round numbers quickly.

What Is the Mid-Market Exchange Rate?

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell price of a currency on global markets — it's the rate you'll see quoted in the news or on Google. It's the fairest reference point for planning, but it's rarely the exact rate you're offered in person. Banks, airport counters, and some travel cards add a margin on top, so the amount you actually receive when exchanging cash is usually a little lower.

How Much Should You Budget for Currency Exchange?

A common rule of thumb is to set aside an extra 2–5% of your total trip budget to cover exchange fees and rate markups, especially if you plan to exchange cash rather than use a fee-free travel card. Converting a rough total in advance — rather than only checking prices item by item at the till — makes it much easier to catch a bad deal.

Tips for Getting a Better Exchange Rate While Traveling

Avoid airport counters

Airport kiosks almost always offer the weakest rates. Exchange only what you need to get into the city, and do the rest elsewhere.

Use a no-foreign-fee card

Many travel cards and some banks waive foreign transaction fees and use rates close to the mid-market rate.

Decline dynamic currency conversion

When a card machine asks "Pay in USD or local currency?", choose the local currency — it almost always works out cheaper.

Withdraw larger amounts less often

Flat ATM fees add up fast. Fewer, larger withdrawals usually cost less overall than many small ones.

Currency Exchange FAQs

What is a currency converter?+

A currency converter is a tool that shows how much one currency is worth in another, using the current exchange rate, so you can estimate costs before you travel or spend abroad.

How accurate are the exchange rates?+

This tool pulls live, market-based exchange rates that update regularly. They closely match the mid-market rate, though banks, cards, and currency counters usually add their own fee or markup on top.

How often are exchange rates updated?+

Rates refresh automatically each time you load the page and can be manually refreshed at any time using the refresh button next to the exchange rate.

Will I get this exact rate at the airport or bank?+

No. This is the mid-market exchange rate — the midpoint between what a currency is bought and sold for. Banks, airport kiosks, and exchange counters typically charge a markup or commission on top of it.

What currencies are supported?+

The converter supports major world currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, INR, AED, SAR, TRY, THB, MYR, SGD, and PKR, among others.

Can I use this to plan my travel budget?+

Yes. Converting your home currency into your destination's currency is a quick way to sanity-check prices, daily spending limits, and cash withdrawals while planning a trip.
