5 Awesome Things to Do in Malaysia You Need to Know

You may not think of Malaysia as a top tourist destination but nearly 26 million people visit Malaysia each year. These people understand the wonders that Malaysia has to offer, from a vivid cultural background to the attractions and destinations you can’t find the likes of anywhere else. If you’re planning a visit, read on to learn about 5 interesting things to do in Malaysia.

1. Explore Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is a cultural hub unlike anywhere else. It’s known for its eclectic combination of Malaysian, Chinese, Eurasian, Indian, and indigenous cultures.

While there, you can witness historic houses and buildings of each culture, from Chinese temples to Islamic Mosques. In fact, you can go inside Malaysia’s National Mosque of Islam.

One of many other sites to see in Kuala Lumpur are the two Petronas towers. These twin towers are the tallest in the world and glow with golden light in the evenings. If you don’t have a fear of heights, you might dare to walk across the sky bridge between them.

2. Visit Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi

One of the best attractions in Malaysia is Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi.

This interactive exhibit shows off a whopping 4,000 different crocodile species from around the world. This includes one of the largest alive, weighing over 2,200 pounds.

While you visit, don’t miss the opportunity to take photos with and even feed the prehistoric beasts.

3. Hike the Taman Negara National Park

The Taman Negara National Park is the biggest national park in Malaysia.

For nature lovers and hikers, it’s a beautiful destination. Take short or long hikes amidst the plant life and wild animals.

For expert hikers, the national park boasts a 62-mile long trail.

If you enjoy world records, then be sure to cross the forest’s hanging rope bridge – the longest in the world.

Another feature that sets the park apart from the rest is that it’s where Malaysia’s native tribe lives to this day.

4. See the Batu Caves

If you’re willing to walk up 272 stairs, then you have to experience the Batu Caves.

These jagged natural wonders have been around for an estimated 400 million years and make up an important Hindu shrine.

The lowest cave is 300-feet tall and home to a 140-foot tall Hindu statue of the god Murugan.

If the historic caves don’t gain your interest, then perhaps the indigenous monkeys will. Hundreds of wild, long-tailed macaque monkeys call the Batu Caves home and are quite the site for tourists. Just be careful they don’t steal your food.

5. Experience the Fireflies of Kampung Kuantan

Without a doubt, one of the best things to do in Malaysia is to see the magical fireflies of Kampung Kuantan.

In this small town, around 8-10 pm, fireflies light up the dark skies with blinking light.

What is particularly special, though, is that all of the fireflies shine to the same rhythm and pattern, despite its inconsistency.
