The Heart Behind Kabobi: Their Story
Kabobi was born from a deep love for Mediterranean food and a desire to share it with others. Rooted in traditional recipes, Kabobi has become a go-to spot for those craving authentic, halal food. The owners, inspired by their family’s cooking, decided to open a grill house where everyone could experience the delicious flavors of the Middle East.
From the very beginning, the goal was clear: serve food that is fresh, flavorful, and made with love. It is not just about food, it is about family, community, and tradition. That’s why every dish served is made with the finest ingredients and cooked using traditional grilling techniques.
What Makes Kabobi Stand Out
What makes Kabobi unique? It’s the combination of fresh, halal-certified ingredients, authentic cooking methods, and house-made spices that sets it apart from the rest. Every kabob is grilled to perfection over charcoal, bringing out the natural flavors and smoky aromas that make the food irresistible.
Kabobi uses only the finest meats and produce, ensuring that each bite bursts with freshness. The house-made sauces add an extra layer of flavor that will leave you coming back for more. Whether it’s the tangy garlic sauce or the zesty yogurt dip, Kabobi’s sauces are as much of a treat as the dishes themselves.

i) Mahendra Shah:3.5/5 (⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆) (03-24-2025)
This Mediterranean restaurant is located at Lawrence and Kedzie in Chicago—my old neighborhood, where I lived from 1978 to 1988. Surprisingly, the area hasn’t changed much since then.
I ordered the vegetarian platter. The hummus and baba ghanoush were the standouts—absolutely delicious. The rest of the items were just okay.
The restaurant was fairly clean, which I appreciated. They do have free parking in the back, though there aren’t many spots available.
Prices were reasonable, but I was disappointed to see additional service charges added to my bill without a clear explanation.

One of the most flavorful koobideh kabobs I’ve tried in Chicago. I ordered the Sultani dish, and it was phenomenal—juicy, well-seasoned, and perfectly grilled.
However, I wish they paid more attention to the onion garnish. It was thinly sliced with bits of skin still attached and tossed onto the plate without care.
Despite that small issue, this is a solid spot for an authentic Persian meal.
